Our boutique bakery is open by appointment only and we do not have a storefront. We do not have any cakes pre-made for sale. Every cake made by Sugar Sugar Cake Studio is custom made to order from start to finish.
How much are your cakes?
All cakes made by Sugar Sugar Cake Studio are priced individually based on the complexity of their design and the number of people to be served. We do not have a standard price list.
Our cakes start at $10.00 per person and they can cost considerably more depending upon all of the factors involved. Our novelty and sculpted cakes start at $15.00 per person and the costs rise with the complexity of the structures and/or designs. A minimum of 75 servings is required.
Please contact us to discuss your cake and we will happily provide you with an estimate.
What is your payment policy?
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your event date; the remainder (“balance payment”) is due at least two weeks (e.g., 14 calendar days) prior to your event. Your order is not confirmed until we have received your signed contract and deposit. Orders placed within two weeks of the event date require payment in full by credit card at the time of ordering. All payments for orders within two weeks of the event date are non-refundable.
Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover). Please contact us for a credit card authorization form to return via fax.
If you cancel your order, your balance payment is refundable provided Sugar Sugar Cake Studio is notified at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the event. There is no refund on orders canceled within fourteen (14) calendar days of the event.
How far in advance should I order a cake?
We are often booked weeks or months ahead of time, so the sooner you contact us the better able we are to reserve your place on our calendar. We prefer a minimum of two weeks notice, but for weddings and similar events we suggest a minimum of six months to one year.
May I order a cake at the last minute?
We definitely attempt to accommodate last minute requests if our schedule allows. Please call or email to inquire about availability for your particular date.
Do you offer tastings? How many people may I bring with me?
We offer a complimentary tasting and consultation for up to four guests for all cakes that will provide a minimum of 75 servings. Our tastings are designed to accommodate a maximum of four people. If you are working with an event planner, you are encouraged to bring them with you to your tasting appointment. You may select two flavor combinations to sample during your appointment.
Is there a charge for the consultation? How long can we expect to be there?
Tasting and consultation appointments are complimentary for all cakes serving a minimum of 75 people. Appointments can be booked for smaller cakes at a charge of $75 for the appointment. An hour is set aside for each client, which has proven to be ample time to both design and taste our cakes. Appointments will be scheduled before and after yours so please plan to be on time so we have a full hour. If you are late, your appointment will still end at the original time to accommodate the next appointment. Event dates are held for you through the date of your appointment or quote, and five (5) business days afterwards. If we do not receive a signed contract and 50% non-refundable deposit within five (5) business days of your appointment or quote, your date may become unavailable.
May I taste more then two flavor combinations?
Tasting two flavor combinations will give you a good idea of the superior quality and sophistication of our products. If you desire to sample more than two flavor combinations, we will bake additional samples for you at a charge of $35 per additional flavor combination.
How far in advance should I schedule my consultation and tasting appointment?
All the cakes for our consultation and tasting appointments are custom-baked and we require a minimum of three (3) calendar days notice for all cake tastings. We book up far in advance so its best to email us or call 602-553-CAKE and reserve your tasting as soon as possible. Consultation and tastings appointments for extremely elaborate cakes are suggested at least a year in advance.
Why do you need my credit card information for a consultation and tasting appointment?
For cakes that will provide at least 75 servings our cake tastings are complimentary. We bake cakes just for your tasting appointment and your credit card is used to guarantee the reservation for your appointment. We kindly ask that if you are going to cancel, please give us a minimum of three (3) calendar days notice. If you do not show up for your tasting or do not cancel three calendar days prior to your tasting appointment, your credit card will be charged $75 for the tasting cakes that were baked especially for you and the hour of time that we reserved for you.
May I bring you a picture of a cake I like and have you replicate it?
You may bring any cake photos that appeal to you and we will use them as inspiration for the custom design that we will create just for you. The best advice we can give a bride before meeting with us is not to spend hours online or in wedding magazines looking at photos of wedding cakes. We do not copy the work of other sugar artists; every cake we make is an original design that is specific to the couple getting married. If a bride comes to us dead-set on a design, we will use it as inspiration for her custom cake, but this often limits our creativity and the final product.
What should I bring to my consultation and tasting appointment?
Our design process is a collaborative effort and we look forward to working with you. It is helpful to have made your venue, color and floral decisions prior to our meeting so we have that information available. Additionally, any element from your event that you feel we can draw inspiration from is great to bring as well. This can include pictures of your dress, venue, etc. If you have a copy of your invitation or a design motif, please bring it. If you have a monogram or color swatches they can also be very useful. Before you arrive for your consultation, it is helpful to have a budget in mind for what you would like to spend on your cake. This will give us a better sense of what we can design for you.
Do I have to make a deposit to reserve my wedding/event date? If so, how much is it and can I get a refund, if necessary?
You will need to make a 50% non-refundable deposit to reserve your wedding/event date on our calendar. We will base your deposit on the total estimated amount at the time of the deposit. We ask that you be absolutely certain that you would like to work with us because all deposits are date specific and non-refundable.
I am not yet ready to make design decisions but I want to reserve our date so you don’t get booked up, is that possible?
You may reserve your date with a non-refundable $350 deposit. Final arrangements need to be made a minimum of six (6) weeks prior to your event. Again, we ask that you be absolutely certain that you would like to work with us because all deposits are date specific and non-refundable.
Do you have a catalog or brochure?
Our website serves as our brochure of previous custom-designed work. If you would like to schedule a consultation you will then have the opportunity to view our current portfolio.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
We are happy to discuss dietary requirements for your cake. Please note that Sugar Sugar Cake Studio does not offer wheat or gluten-free cakes. Sugar Sugar Cake Studio is not a certified Kosher establishment and is unable to produce parve cakes.
Will you place fresh flowers on my cake?
Sugar Sugar Cake Studio will not place any commercially grown non-organic flowers on our cakes due to the pesticides and fungicides used in their production. We recommend the beautifully handcrafted flowers that are a signature of our boutique bakery. This allows us to control the scale, proportion, color and overall size of the flowers. Handmade flowers also make a charming keepsake of your event. We will work with your florist to coordinate the look of your custom handmade flowers with the fresh flowers being used to decorate your event.
Do you deliver?
Delivery is mandatory for all wedding cakes. In addition, almost all of our speciality cakes must be delivered because they require on-site assembly. We cannot guarantee that any particular staff member will deliver your cake.
Delivery and set up fees are calculated round-trip by distance traveled at a rate of $60 an hour. Our delivery range is four to six hours from Phoenix. Longer deliveries are occasionally arranged, but must be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Cakes can be flown to distant locations with Sugar Sugar Cake Studio team members. Such deliveries require flying an appropriate number of staff to the reception site at least one day in advance to ensure enough time for any repairs that must be made following a lengthy and sometimes turbulent journey. If you are holding a destination event, it may be best to arrange to fly a Sugar Sugar Cake Studio team and all necessary supplies to your destination in enough time to bake and decorate your cake on site. This is also arranged on a case-by-case basis.
May I pick up my order?
Clients may elect to self-transport our smallest cakes (e.g., those only one tier tall with no fragile sugar decorations, etc.). Self-transporting any cake is entirely at your own risk. Sugar Sugar Cake Studio does not allow clients to self-transport any sculpted cakes, cakes two or more tiers tall, or any cake to be delivered more than one hour from Downtown Phoenix. Sugar Sugar Cake Studio is not responsible for any damage that may occur to any client-transported cake once it has left our bakery and there will be no repairs made to any cakes damaged during self-transport.
Clients are welcome to pick up small orders of cake pops and cake truffles, but elaborate displays require delivery and setup.
Do you ship?
Arrangements can be made to ship some of our simpler cakes; please contact us to discuss your need. Cakes with elaborate decorations and all sculpted cakes must be delivered rather than shipped.
Cake pops and cake truffles can be shipped during the cooler months of the year to avoid any risk of the chocolate coating melting.
What are cake pops and cake truffles?
Cake pops and cake truffles are a signature offering of Sugar Sugar Cake Studio. They are a delicious combination of our cakes and buttercream that have the consistency of a chocolatier’s truffles. They are hand dipped in chocolate coating and decorated to match the aesthetics of your event.
